Making
Work Fun
Why should it be fun?
Celebrating all birthdays once a month, having holiday parties and
company picnics are commonly considered a company's traditional
efforts to have fun in the workplace. These efforts are a good start
and should be continued. But keep in mind that we ask our employees
to go the extra mile with our clients. Therefore, we must do the
same for our employees. The reverberations of the staffs efforts
can result in incredibly satisfied customers.

How
can you begin to put fun into your work environment?
No one will be required to wear red noses, funny glasses, tell tasteless
jokes or exchange massages. Solicit ideas and volunteers to coordinate
the fun events. Participation leads to buy-in. Employees will be
free to chose when and how to participate. It is natural that the
more committed the management and staff becomes the more people
who will join in the fun.
What is your
CEO's biggest challenge? Profitability. How could you increase profitability?
Marketing to potential clients and retaining the existing clients.
An incentive for employees to gain enthusiasm about marketing is
to set an attainable goal for example, a team making 50 marketing
calls by the end of week. If the goal is met by Friday afternoon,
arrange a park excursion for celebrating with the team play
badminton, chip golf shots, or set up a frisbee golf course. The
CEO has little to lose and everything to gain. Fun is a great incentive
to encourage friendly competition and encourage extraordinary results

Try
this fun activity.
Put your current work environment into perspective by "drawing
it." Everyone on the team creates a drawing, with crayons,
of how they "see" their job. After the drawing is complete,
a list is made of ten things they like about their job. Then they
make a wish list what they would change about their job to
make it better. Share the drawings in a supportive group setting.
A trained facilitator who can process the information and establish
a plan to make some changes may be another positive step to making
fun of work.
